Catherine Bailey (she/her/hers) was first inspired to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner while working as a speech pathologist in the Austin public schools where many of her speech students struggled with low mood, anxiety, and impulsivity. While earning her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Texas at Austin, Catherine trained as an Integrated Behavioral Health Scholar with a focus on treating youth and families from marginalized and underserved communities. She also held a research assistantship at the Bipolar Disorder Center at Dell Medical School where she conducted comprehensive patient assessments for clinical research trials. Catherine especially enjoys working with neurodivergent individuals, and can diagnose and treat ADHD in people of all ages. She has contributed to research on using therapeutic storytelling as an intervention for workplace trauma, and she comfortably incorporates alternative therapies, community-based supports, and facilitating academic and career accommodations. In addition to her training in speech language therapy and nursing, Catherine graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William and Mary and earned a master’s degree in anthropology from UCLA. As a former (and forever) anthropologist, she practices using an anti-oppression lens, and remains curious, humble, and respectful of her patients' unique perspectives and backgrounds. She is a member of Central Texas Eating Disorder Specialists (CTEDS) and practices according to the principles of Health at Every Size (HAES).
